Evans to Stay With Tipp

John EvansJohn Evans has agreed to continue as Tipperary football manager for a third season.

The charismatic Kerryman has transformed Tipp’s footballing fortunes since first arriving in the county in late 2007, guiding them to back-to-back NFL promotions. This year, they upset all the odds to beat Down in the NFL Division 3 final and also registered their first championship win in six years at the expense of Louth. Tipp’s season ended last Saturday when they suffered a narrow defeat to Sligo in the second round of the All-Ireland qualifiers.

“My intention is to stay on with Tipperary,” said Evans, who has also been linked with a full-time coaching role in the Premier County.

“I was very happy with the season and if somebody had told me at the start of the year that we would win promotion in the league, pick up silverware and win a championship match, I would have taken it with both hands.”
